.:Let's Just Forget for a Bit:.

Well, it's about damn time Emily has posted some more of her work! My watched deviations list have been a little lacking in some of her photos. But it's all good! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)"/>

Well what can I say? Another excellently done photo from Emily. She continues to amaze, especially at such a young age and having attended no lessons. Yes, that's right, she's fourteen and self taught. Crazy!

Anyhow, my favorite part about this photo is the use of contrast. Sure, it may not be the most original effect (as it's being used more and more these days), but it looks pretty damn cool! The contrast really draws your eye to the subject of the flower, eliminating any distractions.

Having the flower in color and the background black and white really makes the piece fit in with the title, Let's Just Forget for a Bit. While Emily's description explains the title referring to how she misses spring, the photo could go deeper than that. Taking the contrast into consideration again, the color of the flower is like a "beacon" of hope midst all the black and grey. It could symbolically represent that one thing that gives you hope, like light at the end of the tunnel, when everything else seems to be falling apart.

In August, I started my freshman year in high school. It wasn't really a big deal to me; just another year of school. However, I've quickly learned high school isn't like middle school or elementary at all. I joined this brand new school with brand new people, and I've already had to deal with a number of different issues. Some of it is silly, some is quite mature stuff. There have been a few times when it seems like my little world is falling apart, but there's always the one thing that gives you hope; shows a way out. That's like the flower in this instance, it's the lighthouse at night; it guides you through all of life's troubles.

As for the technical side of the photo, it's done very well. The rule of thirds is very apparent here, and really creates an eye-catching image. The focus is perhaps a little off, but maybe that's just me. The lighting is very well done, and suggests the sun shining bright above. Overall, a nice close up of the flower, displaying every little detail.

I always save the best for last; my complaints! I've only got a few nit-picks, but like I mentioned earlier, the focus seems a bit off to me. There's also some color in black and white areas around the petals, and black and white on areas where there should be color on the petals. It isn't very noticeable, but an OCD nit-pick nonetheless. Lastly, that watermark. I feel watermarks ruin a little of the art's atmosphere and "magic". I understand why their used, but I just don't like them. However, I will applaud Emily for adding a less noticeable water mark.

In conclusion, this photo is very well done; easily at a professional level. You couldn't ask for more in a photo- very pretty subject, interesting composition, and a great story to top it off. Yet another superb job, Emily!
